From Sant Julià de Vilatorta to a poker of titles?
Regal FC Barcelona already Catalan league, spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey champions...!
On August 29, 2010, and for the fourth consecutive year, Regal FC Barcelona started their preseason in 26th Caixa Manlleu Basketball Tournament. All of Erazem Lorbek, Gianluca Basile, Pete Mickeal, Terence Morris, Boniface Ndong, Victor Sada and Roger Grimau were here to play their first hoops and score their first points of a season in which, so far, has won all three of the titles played for, the Catalan League, the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey. And the way things are going, they could also add the Spanish ACB League, which would make for four out of four!.
Last year we also had the pleasure of hosting the first game of the preseason of two of the other Catalan teams in the ACB, DKV Joventut de Badalona and Assignia Manresa. This match is becoming a traditional feature of our Tournament and as usual was packed with plenty of thrills and top quality basketball.
There can be no disputing that ACB matches have always produced some of the most spectacular moments of every edition of the Unnim Basketball Tournament. Since the first ACB match, between Joventut de Badalona and Casademont Girona in 1998, with Raúl López appearing as the golden junior for La Penya, a total of 19 ACB matches have been included in the last 13 editions of the Tournament. First in Vic and, since 2007, in the new Pavelló Municipal de Sant Julià, we have enjoyed watching FC Barcelona, Joventut Badalona, Vive Menorca, CAI Zaragoza, Basquet Manresa, Basquet Girona and Caprabo Lleida.
In these 12 years, we have seen some of the best basketball players around in action, including Pau Gasol, Raúl López, Rudy Fernández and Ricky Rubio. So, we are now wondering what players and teams can we expect to see at the 27th Unnim Basketball Tournament? Teams will not be thinking about their preseason schedules until the current ACB season is over, so we can’t tell you who is coming yet, but what we can guarantee is that top quality basketball will once again be on the menu at the Unnim Basketball Tournament!
